Gecko Homicide January 9, 2009

Today has been long so this is going to be a pretty short post as I am tired.  I woke up at 6:30 and showered and got ready.  Breakfast was at 7:30 and consisted of scrambled eggs, fruit, and gallo pinto (the national dish of Costa Rica which is basically just rice and black beans and is served at every meal).  After breakfast we hopped on the bus to go to school orientation where there were tours and presentations on culture shock, what to expect, class schedules, and then a brunch.   Our host mom picked us up and took us on a walking tour of downtown.  I didn’t have my camera with me, but sometime I’ll take it and take pictures because the old buildings are so pretty.  We took the bus home (I still don’t know which bus to get on to go where) and had lunch.  Yep, that’s right… three full meals before 2 p.m (I swear I’m going to gain at least 20 pounds, but it will be well worth it, the food is delicious).  This afternoon was pretty uneventful: my roommate went out with some of her Tico (that’s what Costa Ricans call themselves) friends and I stayed in and read and napped.  Dinner was delicious and was surprise! beans and rice, a quesadilla thing, and a torta.  After lots of conversation about boys and the ULACIT (the program I’m in) potentials, I retired to my room to blog and such and there was a gecko on my desk.  I thought it was plastic so I just kind of ignored it until it moved.  I told my roommate and she freaked out.  My host mom came to look at it and decided it was no big deal.  She returned with a broom and squashed it to death which brings me here.  I’m going to bed soon as tomorrow is another early morning for us.

I used to see geckos all the time when I lived in Texas. I would catch them and make them my pet until they died.

Awwww, the poor gecko. Other than witnessing the gecko homicide it sounds like you are having a wonderful time. :)
